Whatever happened to Imgsrc.ru?
Posted on | September 29, 2008 |
Fans of the photo sharing service Imgsrc.ru have probably noticed that the site is down since some days. I e-mailed the owner to ask why and got a link to this page in return. A Google translation of the text reads like this:
IMGSRC.RU server was shut down on the personal initiative of a very proactive employee company hostera (Beeline Business, a former Golden Telecom). The data is not lost, all the pictures saved. I hope that tomorrow, with the start of the working day will be new information from more competent people.
While comments from hostera about the access shut down without warning has been received.
Another informer has e-mailed Destroyer that the site was shut down by the ISP because of its popularity with boy photo collectors. Allegedly a 21-year-old employee decided to pull the plug after she had received daily requests to do so from a children’s rights crusader.
To make the story even more bizarre, rumour has it that the same person who is trying to make life miserable for boy photo collectors by e-mailing ISP’s used to be a boy photo collector himself. If that is true, what we’re seeing is a beautiful schoolbook example of overcompensation - the most rabid propagators of any cause always have something contrary to the cause to hide. Or as we say in Swedish: “Den som sa’t, han va’t.” Sad thing only, that an ISP is playing along with him in his personal flogging.
Destroyer relied on Imgsrc.ru to build the Destroyer Map - an art project where one devoted reader collected photos of boy sculptures in public places. The collection had reached a whole 1.795 photos, and it is our hope that they have not been collected in vain.

I noticed when I was looking for photos from Will McBride in rinrin’s collection *sigh*

well, I think there is a reason why child protecters complained about that service.
the chef of imgsrc.ru also is not cooperative concerning illegal distribution of copyrighted material.
so I am not astonished to see him disappear…but probably only for very short time I think.

Another fine boy-photo site 12chan.org seems to have vanished at about the same time as imgsrc. Anyone have any information on that?

@Dan
Don’t be too afraid about 12chan, it was offline for a few days every month. They will come back sooner or later.

The zeal of the closet case self-persecuting is captured in the English idiom “the lady doth protest too much, methinks” … from Shakespeare, of course.

Lovely, Rimmer. A friend always uses that expression, but I thought (like he) that it originated from Boy George!

I hope that imgsrc.ru will be back soon.Love to Skinny,picture-master and quercus!

What is the extent of the damage. What is the danger for those who downloaded pictures. Are measures going to be taken to protect us in the future.

I thought the site owner was quite diligent about illegal and copyrighted subjects. Skinny made sure those posters were shut down immediately. There are few places to find free photo sites, with many of the ones available “down for service” or being converted to pay sites.

so stupidly blunt question… what alternatives are their? 12chan and imsrc = still dead

Apparently they are looking for a new host at this time. They continue to say that no photos are lost; we will see I suppose. So far the most promising seems to be ‘at the end of October’ - there is an LJ community, but not in english.

I think it will be hard for them to find a host. Almost every day Skinny was having to take down child porn photos. A host may not want to deal with all the possible legal problems that come with those types of posts. A few idiots can ruin it for everyone.

Why cant Skinny buy a server himself? That would mean he would never have to worry about this happening again. Im sure over time the cash from advertisers would cover the costs.
October 6th, 2008 @ 8:33 pm
Are there any other sites than imgsrc and 12chan?
October 7th, 2008 @ 11:06 pm
Pay sites are dangerous payment details can be traced
October 8th, 2008 @ 9:04 am
i hope imgsrc will work again.

tell skinny to go to azovfilms.com. the company that owns azov purchased an ISP and are going to be a webhost - hosting anything regardless of content (that isn’t porn). or better still, go to the company that currently hosts azov’s site now. from talking to steve at azov the hoster gets weekly emails from “child protection” groups about shutting the site down and they refuse to budge even under police pressure.
October 8th, 2008 @ 11:32 am
That’s a good idea actually. Azov Films is hosted by PRQ in Sweden.

Imgsrc.ru seems to be closed by internal problems, they already deleted a lot of albums. Try photofile.ru, like they did before, they’ve got about the same facilities. Russia seems to be more tolerant than western countries, where some completely legal sites were shut down by their providers: even already a few hours after they started!
October 8th, 2008 @ 2:23 pm
@hugobossman
Azov will host websites? That sounds pretty interesting, where did you get that info from?
October 8th, 2008 @ 2:26 pm
Oh and PRQ is cool for sure, I thought about hosting milkboys with them… ’till I saw the prices
But imgsrc should have enough money to do that.
October 8th, 2008 @ 11:50 pm
what makes me laugh is that 60% of employees who work for child protection organizations regulary download child porn and some even instigate…. what a world we live in eh
October 9th, 2008 @ 7:04 pm
Well I was violently angry when I saw imgsrc had been downed!! Especially if it was because of rotten scum big-protector-of-kids hysteria peeps!! As of now their “having technical probs” note is still up and it’s been a week, so they better come back soon with all the albums intact!!
